falling film evaporator with mechanical vapor recompression, part of a Zero Discharge System (ZLD). The Evaporator includes the following major components: the evaporator, a circulation pump, a compressor, the deaereator, a distillate system, the feed heaters, and associated pumps. Each evaporator shares a common feed tank and seeding system. This evaporation system was previously used in a Zero Discharge System by a major Utility company. It was designed and engineered by Bechtel, and utilizes a seed-slurry process to maintain heat transfer tubes in a scale controlled manner. The process has been maintained in excellent shape.

  • The main evaporator (Plant # BC-1/2) is a Model 130T designed by RCC and manufactured by Plant Maintenance Services, and has 13,000 square foot of surface area in the tube section. The construction Alloys are Titanium, AL6XN, and 316 SS. The design conditions for the condenser shell are 8 psig internal and 2 psig external at 250 degrees F. The condenser tubes are rated for full flooding and 8 psig external at 250 degrees F. The floor and sump are rated for full flooding and 2 psig at 250 degrees F. The evaporators dimensions are 88" OD at the condenser, 106" OD in the mid section and 134"OD at the sump/skirt. Overall height is 54' 11". The unit is skirt mounted. The tubes are 2" OD x 0.028" wall thickness x 24' long with a titanium top tube sheet and a AL6XN bottom tube sheet. The vessel includes two 30" manway for top and side access, and structural steel with stairs and platforms. *The recirculation pump(Plant # P-034-A/B) is an AC/ITT single stage, open impeller, horizontal centrifugal pump. It is a model # 150, size 14 x 12 x 21 PWO, with packing on the main shaft. It is rated for 5000 GPM at 40' TDH. The material of construction is Austenitic SS (CD4MCU). It is a base mounted direct coupled pump, driven by a 75 HP AC motor. The motor is rated for 60 Hz, 3 ph, TEFC with a 497 T frame. Mechanical Vapor recompression is provided by a Roots centrifugal blower( Plant # C-002-A/B), in a skid mounted package with an electrical driver. The blower is a Type 360IB, serial # HA3352. It is rated for 1233 lbs./minute, with an inlet volume of 30,003 ACFM, at 14.82 psi, with a specific gravity of 0.622. The inlet temperature is rated for 217 degrees F and the discharge pressure is 20.2 psi. It operates at 7309 RPM. It has a Lufkin gear increaser, and is driven by a Siemens 1000 HP ac motor. The motor is rated for 3/60 1460 volts. The skid mounted unit includes controls, oil system, and oil cooler.
